Miss Jessie’s Creams

I do my best to try to encourage all women to go natural.  Why do I push this option?  Well your hair in its natural state is going to be the strongest, healthiest thickest that that it can be.  I think we all can agree that healthy hair is appealing. I think that so many women have been relaxed, processed, dyed and colored to the point that they don’t know what their natural texture of hair is.  Well if you want to get out of this vicious cycle you need to read my reviews of the Miss Jessie’s products so that you too can learn what products might work for you.

Before I start lets address the major hurdle concerning Miss Jessie’s products.  Many of my readers complain about the price.  The most expensive being $58 for 16 ounces and $9 for 2 ounces.   Well the reason that the products are a bit hefty on the price is because a little goes a long way.  During last years buy on get one free sale I bought the butter cream and the Curly Meringue and I still have some left under my sink 12 months later!  So when you do the math it is a great deal because it lasts a really long time.  So now that you are over the price lets get down to the products.

The products that you buy are very dependent on the type of hair that you have.  No hair being better then the other (I don’t believe in good hair and bad hair) just different.  There are 4 main types of hair, Straight 1, Wavy 2, Curly 3A and 3B, Kinky 4A and B.  When dealing with Miss Jessie’s Products I am just going to address people with type 3 and 4 hair.

Type 3A                                       Type 3B                                 Type 4A                             Type 4 B

For all types I recommend the Buttercream. It is by far the best moisturizing cream that I have found to date. It will hydrate even the driest curls.  I think that I should put a warning on the product that less is more. If you apply too much you will see that your hair will be too heavy and that you will not achieve the desired look that you are looking for.  So the $58 dollar jar is what I would get if you want to moisturize.  The smell is very minty and when applied it does tingle the scalp.  If you are applying it to children’s hair I would suggest that you go with the baby buttercream as it does not have the minty tingle that children sometimes don’t like.

The Curly Meringue is one that I would suggest for people with 4 A or B hair who are looking to do a twist out.  This product mixed with a dash of the buttercream makes an amazing twist out.  I have found that when I use the Curly Meringue alone it can tend to flake, but when I mix it with the buttercream I eliminate the flaking issue. If you have 3 A or B hair then I would use this product almost as a wash and go.  Wet the hair apply the product and then comb through the hair from root to tip and you are on your way out the door.  It makes for wonderful soft curls for the whole day!

I am myself not a big fan of the curly pudding because I do not like the crunchy firm curl that is left when the product dries. I want my hair to be soft and manageable.  I guess if you mixed it with the buttercream it would help to eliminate the stiffness that I have not fallen in love with, but if you like the firm defined curl then this might be the product for you.

The Rapid Recovery was a product that I wasn’t too sure about until I tried it.  I think that there are a lot of products that say they can deep condition hair but I find that their products do not hold up to the hype.  I was pleasantly surprised that the Rapid recovery was better then I thought!  I got a small 2 oz jar thinking that I would be disappointed as I have been in the past with other products but I was overjoyed with the moisture and manageability that this conditioner provided for my hair! I am really kicking myself in the butt saying “Why didn’t I buy the bigger jar?”  I recommend this for all hair types.

I was feeling adventurous so I also tried the Stretch Silkening cream. It is much thicker then even the curly Meringue.  So it weighs the hair down a lot!  I made the mistake again of using too much.  All of the Miss Jessie’s products are so rich you have to really be careful not to use so much.  This product will surly define your curls if you are a 3 A or B if you are a 4 A or B I think that this would again be good for a twist out or a coil out.  The hard part with these styles is waiting for them to dry.  If you are a 4 A or B don’t think that any of these products will be a wash and go for you.  It will require a bit more work on your part.

Last but not least I tries the Cream De La Curl.  Now I can’t say that it made my hair curl in ways any different then any other shampoo but I can say that I love it.  From its rich luxurious smell to the thick cream application all the way to the beautiful sky blue of the product. This product removed all the dirt and oil from my hair without stripping the natural oils from my scalp. After using this product even my husband was enchanted by the soft smell of this cleansing shampoo! Yes again with this product less is more.  It will not last the year like the 16 oz creams but it will give you your money’s worth!

So all in all I have found a good home with the Miss Jessie’s products, I wish they we less expensive but I wish everything was less expensive.  Don’t expect your hair to turn from kinks to curls because the product will only help to define what you already have.  If you want defined curls and you do not have them naturally it is going to take some work and a lot of drying time.  If you are up to it then do it if not then use these products for their moisturizing benefits.  Enjoy and Happy Holidays.
