Remember the days when people would talk about you when you had in a weave? You were said yot have in horse hair, or that you were “unbeweavible” Did people say this because they were afraid of change or perhaps they were jealous that they were not able to have their hair weaved. My personal belief was the the weave was so bad that there was only one thing to do……talk about crazy it looked! One of my favorite things to do it learn new techniques and become astonished by what some people allow to be done to their hair.

Weaves should be believable let that be your first priority. Even if you go fron 2 inches to 24 inches make it look real please. here are some examples of what not to do…

Have you ever stopped to wonder just how much it costs the average person to go from cute to stunning? Make up: $40. Clothes: $200. Shoes: $140. Contact Lenses and or designer sun glasses: $100. Lace front wigs have been used in the movie and television industry for quite a few years. Celebrities and their stylists love them because they are virtually invisible to the camera. Unlike conventional wigs, the lace front wig can be worn in an updo or even a high ponytail. It can even be parted in any direction and styled to your choosing, unlike regular wigs that have to retain the style it was created with.

Lace front wigs are a high quality hairpiece designed to give the illusion of a perfect hairline. Applying Lace Front Wigs

When applying a lace front wig it does not have to be done by a professional, although it is recommended, that you seek services from someone who specializes in lace front wigs. You can easily apply one at home by yourself, but remember that you will need to be patient in order to perfect the technique. You should also take the time to learn and understand the technique in how to apply a lace front wig.

Lace front wigs are delicate so they should be handled gently and with care so they do not rip. When combing your lace front wig you should always use a wide tooth comb. You should comb the hair gently, but not excessively, nor should you tug on the hair because it will cause damage to the lace front. Combing it excessively or tugging on the lace front may cause the wig to shed. Once you have the wig on you will need to make sure you keep it moisturized. At night, to keep the lace front from tangling, you should braid the hair and tie a silk scarf around your head, especially the edges of your hairline.

So now that you know how to care for your lace front wig, you are ready to apply it to your head. There are two different ways that the wig can be attached. You can use a liquid adhesive or a tape adhesive. Both methods will give you a secure hold; the method you choose is up to your personal preference. Since the lace front wig will be applied directly to your skin (right below your hairline), you will need to make sure that the area is clean, free of oils and hairless, no matter which adhesive you decide upon. If you do not take the precautions you will not achieve a secure hold.

Step One: Hairline Preparation

The first thing you will need to do in this step is cut the lace front wig back to the hairline, while being careful as to not cut any of the hair. Then, position the wig on your head, the wig hairline should go in front of your own hairline. This is to avoid the glue from touching your own hair. When the matching of your hairline and the wig are to your satisfaction, you will need to trim the hairline of the lace front back to match your own hairline, by trimming the wig. This will give a natural appearance to the wig.

Step Two: Apply Scalp Protector

To apply the scalp protector, you will need to use a non-oily soap (Ivory or dial is good) to clean your face and around the perimeter of your hairline. After you have completed this, you will need to apply the Scalp Protector, by spraying or dabbing it on around the perimeter of your head, right below your hairline. The Scalp Protector is used as a barrier between the adhesive and your skin, in order to protect your skin. Since oily skin can weaken the bond of the adhesive, the Scalp Protector helps in keeping them away from the skin, allowing for a stronger hold.

Step Three: Applying Adhesive

Directions for Liquid Adhesive: Some adhesives may come with a brush that you can use to apply the adhesive, but if one does not come with it, use a small, thin applicator (i.e. eye shadow brush) to apply the adhesive. When applying the liquid adhesive you will not need a lot, a little goes a long way.

Now you will need to apply a thin coat of adhesive around the perimeter of your head, making sure it is below your hairline. Next, you will need to use a cool setting blow dryer to dry the glue for about 30-45 seconds (the glue should be sticky). Depending on which adhesive you have chosen to use it can take about 15 minutes. In this step, it is very important to make sure that the glue is very sticky before you apply the wig, to ensure a secure hold. If it is not sticky enough, you run the risk of the wig lifting in a couple of days.

Now it is time to apply the wig. Starting with the front of the hairline, you will need to press the lace front wig unit and glued area firmly together, while applying constant pressure. You will need to do this until the unit can stay by itself, which can be at lease a minute or longer. Continue repeating this step for the nape of your neck and the sides, all while practicing patience. It is recommended that you wait at lease 15 minutes before styling the lace front wig, allowing the glue to adhere and to dry completely.

No matter which liquid adhesive you use, these are the basic steps to follow.

Once you practice, you will develop your own technique on how to apply a liquid adhesive and apply the wig.

Directions for Application of Wig Tape Adhesive: The wig tape is available for purchase in rolls or strips, and is sticky on both sides. First you will need to expose the adhesive of the tape by peeling one side back. Then you will need to apply the tape around the perimeter of your head (keeping it on your skin). Next, place the wig on your head and position it so the perimeter of the wig lines up with the edges of the tape. (A wise thing to do is to pin the hair of the wig up so that it does not get in the way of the tape.) Now you are ready to expose the tape on the other side by peeling the tape and revealing the adhesive. Now you are ready to start at the front of your hairline, and attach the lace front by pressing and holding it to the adhesive for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then you will need to repeat the same steps for the nape of your neck and sides.

As with anything you do, you will need to practice, practice, practice, and be patient, patient, patient. These are just the basic skills for applying a lace front wig and once you have done enough you will develop your own unique technique in applying the wigs.

What is a Lace-Front Wig?

A lace front wig is only news to those outside of the entertainment industry. They’ve been used in movies and television for years. Movie stylists value the lace-front wig because it’s virtually invisible on camera. Recently, celebs such as John Travolta and Beyonnce Knowles have been photographed wearing them.

A lace front wig has fine lace at the hairline of the wig, to make the perfect hairline. What makes the lace wig unique is that it has an entire cap made of nearly invisible lace. The cap is made of either a French lace or a Swiss lace; the lace is so fine that is has a texture similar to hosiery. Each full lace wig has a veil of lace that hides the perimeter of the wig so that you can wear your hair in an updo or a ponytail. On a full lace, the entire cap is made of lace; French lace is used for the back of the cap and a super-fine Swiss lace is used for the front and perimeter of the wig.

The wigs are very costly because they require an average 50 hours of work by a master wig maker to complete. Most quality pieces are made by hand. The master wig maker ties each hair individually into the wig to minimize their appearance. Handmade wigs have a smoother surface than machine made wigs and the hair flows like natural hair.

Lace front wigs aren’t just for celebrities anymore. They can be ordered from your favorite stylist or beauty supply store, or from the Internet. Because most lace front wigs are custom made, it’s important to get an accurate measurement of your scalp before you order from the internet.

At least six measurements are needed. The circumference of your head at the hairline, the length of your head from front to nape, from ear to ear across the forehead and over the top of your head, from temple to temple around the back of your head, and the nape of your neck. In order to get good measurements:

Get a cloth measuring tape
Make sure the tape doesn’t twist or roll and measure with the tape snug, not tight
Finally, re-measure three times or more to ensure a consistent measurement

Once the wig is put on, make-up is applied to the lace, further masking its appearance. The lace-front wig is adhered using specialized glue, a water based copolymer adhesive that holds for 2-4 weeks. Acrylic glues can be used that last from one to three weeks.

A lace front wig can be your ticket to the movie star hair that we all dream of, without the costly stylists and make-up artists.

Got a chance to do a preview of Mirelielle’s photo exhibit of natural hair. I sometimes surf the web just looking to get ideas for new styles. People of the diaspora are so creative, that it sometimes amazes and inspires me to get more creative.

This photo exhibit is a must see for every one who ever thought Black people had “bad” hair. It pictures a hardly exposed world in which natural African hair is prevalent rather than an exception to reveal the new meaning of “bad” hair.

Struck by the beauty and the versatility of natural styles at the annual BAM Fair in Brooklyn, Mireille Liong realized that this was the first time in her adult life that she entered a community where African hair was so dominant that it seemed normal. She started to take photos to reveal this amazing world to those who are unfamiliar with it, in order to expand it. The result is an unprecedented collection of over a 1000 photos that picture bad hair at its best in the Pursuit of Nappiness.

A compilation of these images will be on display at the Casa Frela Gallery in Manhattan New York from November 1st to November 30th. It’s the photographer’s hope that exposure to the collection leads to more natural choices as well as a broader acceptance of afro-centric hair in a society where straight hair isthe norm.

The openings reception on November 1st will be followed by special events scheduled on Sundays. Besides the screening of the award-winning documentary My Nappy Roots, there will also be a hairstyling and head wrap demonstration. The Pursuit of Nappiness will stylishly come to a close with a natural hair show on the last Sunday.

Ummmmm……….Well……….I am at a loss for words I think she must have 10 packs of the 20 inch Yaki! Wendy Williams has to go through a lot of hair in the course of a week because every time we see this media maven, she has a new ‘do. Now I didn’t say the ‘do was nice but no matter what it looks like you know that there will be too much hair on her head. I am trying to figure out what she is trying to hide with all of that hair? I mean enough is enough. I think that 8 ounces or 2 packs of human hair is more then enough for the average person. But as the self-proclaimed Queen of All Media I guess she is not the “average person” Wendy William does it big — from her furs to her dripping jewels to that monstrosity that sits atop her dome — her hair. Ladies please don’t make the same mistake

I am very happy about the Brandy Pro 10 hair but I am always curious why people who have a hair line.. I mean I want to see them wearing their hair out. And I don’t think that this is her Pro 10 hair…. But that’s okay because I like Brandy. She has been a hair icon for many years. I think we all wanted to be “Down” when Brandy was rocking her micros or “Brandy Braids” Like I use to call them. Keep doing your thang Brandy I am not mad at you!
