Why Do Lace Front Wigs Cost So Much?

Have you ever stopped to wonder just how much it costs the average person to go from cute to stunning? Make up: $40. Clothes: $200. Shoes: $140. Contact Lenses and or designer sun glasses: $100. But of all the costs, it seems to pale when compared to the Lace Front Wig, worn from everyone from Britney Spears to Mary J. Blige.

Lace front wigs have been used in the movie and television industry for quite a few years. Celebrities and their stylists love them because they are virtually invisible to the camera. Unlike conventional wigs, the lace front wig can be worn in an updo or even a high ponytail. It can even be parted in any direction and styled to your choosing, unlike regular wigs that have to retain the style it was created with.

Lace front wigs are a high quality hairpiece designed to give the illusion of a perfect hairline. You might be surprised if you knew which celebrities wear lace front wigs; in fact, if you see a celebrity with silky smooth tresses and a perfect hairline, chances are they are wearing a lace front wig.

Lace front wigs were first created for use in the medical community for chemotherapy patients and other men and women that experienced hair loss. They are ideal because they’re virtually undetectable, even close up. After the wig is put on, make-up is used on the edges of the lace to further conceal the hairpiece.

A quality lace front wig is made with 100 percent virgin Indian Remy hair. The hair is sorted according to length and color. Then the hair is carefully laid to ensure that the cuticle all follows the same direction. This makes the hairpiece smooth and silky. Indian Remy hair is preferred because is matches most hair types, and can be cut or colored after purchase.

Lace-front wigs are expensive, but worth every penny. Each piece requires more than fifty hours to complete. Including hair selection and preparation, several weeks are involved before the piece is complete. A master wig maker hand ties each strand into the nearly invisible lace cap. The cap is made of a fine Swiss lace or a more durable French lace.

mary-j-blige-lace-front-wig

The lace front wig comes with a veil of lace that must be trimmed to one-quarter inch before gluing it in place in front of your natural hairline. The specialized glue is a water based copolymer adhesive that holds for 2-4 weeks. If you are going to be doing a lot of physical activity while wearing the wig, be sure to use an extra strength adhesive. For convenience, glue strips are available too.

Lace front wigs can last a lifetime when properly cared for. You can wash the hairpiece as often as you want to, but at least once every two weeks. Be sure to attach the piece to a wig head before washing, and take care not to rub the hair, it can cause tangling and matting. In addition, silicone based products should be used on your lace front wig, not alcohol based, as they can be too drying. Lace front wigs can be styled just like natural hair.

A lace front wig may cost a little more in the beginning, but it is well worth it to have the impeccable style and quality hair that you dream of for a lifetime.

Recently I was invited to meet Kim and Wendi, the founder of Mixed Chicks at a mixer in West Hollywood. Talk about gracious and down to earth women. I was nervous, but they made me feel right at home. I don’t know about you but the pressure of speaking in front of a camera is indescribable. Anyways, their product is highly recommended for many woman of mixed ethnicities, but don’t take my word, read other reviews on the net.

As a stylist I can give all aspiring stylist one piece of advice that has served me well. Stay versatile and continue to learn. What I am really saying is that hair comes in many grades and textures. If you don’t learn how to style various styles, you will limit your potential range of clients.

It’s important to understand the difference between a beauty brand as opposed to a stand alone products. Think of Macy’s as a fashion store brand and the local boutique as a stand alone product. Each plays an important role, but for those looking to eventually exit the business, a great strategy would consist of getting out when you are ahead.

Essentially what is smart to consider, after you have created your products and know what works and does not work for your customers, taking your products to the next level would include creating affiliates, resellers or getting distribution in retail. This is where the big money is at and what most people look at as a marker that they are on the path to great growth.

Now if you have been reading this blog for any amount of time you are well aware that I think relaxers should be avoided like the plague. Why? They weaken the hair. They tend to make women of color feel as though their natural beauty aint natural enough and finally there are so many other looks that one could wear. But….. If perms are your thing, then I would advise you to at least consider no-lye relaxers. But even they have their issues.

I found a great video of a young lady (TracieMae) in Atlanta going through the process of chopping off her relaxed hair and starting anew. She chronicled her experience at Urbanbella an Apothecary in Atlanta. (My sisters on the west coast don’t know nuthin’ ’bout no apothecary). I would call it brave, but in the comments I saw a woman who went natural due to chemo and thought twice about my choice of words. But none the less I hope this inspires someone considering chopping their processed hair off and starting over.

The Hollywood Beauty Carrot Creme is a staple for many urban hair aficionados. I have used it and have clients that swear by it. I never fully understood the difference between a creme and a cream. If you have an idea, let me know. On to the review.

Ingredients: Deionized Water , Isopropyl Myristate , Cetearyl Alcohol , Soybean Oil , Stearic Acid , Ceteareth 20 , Fragrance , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Imidazolidinyl Urea , Carrot Oil , Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein , Vitamin A Palmitate , Vitamin C Ascorbic Acid , Vitamin E Tocopherol , Carrot Extract Beta Carotene , L-Cystine , Panthenol Vitamin B , Peanut Oil , Arginine , Horsetail Extract , Deionized Water Aqua , Cetearyl Alcohol , PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil , Stearalkonium Chloride , Cetyl Alcohol , Stearyl Alcohol , Carrot Oil , Propylene Glycol , Glycerin , Mineral Oil , Tea Tree Oil , Jojoba Oil , Avocado Oil , Coconut Oil , Egg Protein Cholesterol , Aloe Vera Extract , Calendula Extract , Lemon Extract , Rose Mary Extract , Great Burdock Extract , Ivy Extract , Pine Extract , Sage Extract , Watercress Extract , Chamomile Extract , White Nettle Extract , Capucine Extract , Fragrance , Methyl Paraben , Propyl Paraben , Diazolidinyl Urea , DMDM Hydantoin , Disodium EDTA , D&C Yellow No. 10 , FD&C Yellow No. 5 , FD&C Yellow No. 6 , FD&C Red No. 4

Scent: is light and fresh Consistency: just right not to light and not to thick My first time using this product on my hair I wasn’t pleased. That could have been because of the fact my hair was dry. But the second time around I used it while my hair was wet and I loved it. My twist were very curly and I was pleased.

Don’t confuse this hair creme with creams used to treat the skin. If you are looking for a good anti wrinke skin cream you can find great reviews and tips at Best Anti Wrinkle Skin Cream.
